Mauritania: Junta-appointed prime minister names new Cabinet

(SomaliNet) Nearly a month after a coup in the Islamic nation, Mauritania's junta-appointed prime minister has named a new Cabinet.
Media reports said all those named to the 28 posts come from political parties that supported the August 6 coup. Four ministers - of defence, economy, finance and justice - remain in positions held before the military deposed the country's first freely elected president.
In a statement, the junta said that Prime Minister Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf made the appointments late on Sunday.
A transitional government is supposed to lead the north-west African nation until elections are held. No date has been set for the poll.
Ousted President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi has been under house arrest since the takeover. Former Prime Minister Yahya Ould Ahmed Waqef is also being detained by the junta.
The Cabinet includes 23 ministerial positions and five secretaries of state. - Sapa-AP
